The Ion-Exchange Story

The resilience of this material begins at the molecular level through a process known as ion exchange. During fabrication, the glass is placed in a molten salt bath where smaller alkali metal ions are replaced by larger ions from the bath. These “bulky” ions occupy more space, creating a deep layer of high compressive stress at the surface. This compression acts as a protective armor, making the glass inherently more resistant to the pressures of daily use.
